Bible John – My Thoughts

Bible John – My Thoughts

Yet another case that I have come across in which the truth of the matter is debated among those closest to it. Some say that a serial killer was at work in Glasgow, others say that “Bible John” was simply an invention of the media and ineffective police work.

My personal opinion however, given all the similarities in the three cases lead me to wonder were their even more murders committed by this suspect that detectives don’t know about given the similarities between the three reported cases.

The method in which each lady was strangled with her pantyhose and sexually assaulted and the placing of tampons or pads near each victim leads me to believe that one individual was responsible of all of the cases. Coincidence perhaps, especially as I am unsure into what made the media rounds after each case was reported. But given what I know about serial offenders, it leads me to believe that perhaps “Bible John” was real after all.

Someone that was obviously a dedicated follower of the bible or at least well versed religious education to the extent that they could make references without directly quoting the material in which should demonstrate some level of understanding of the text.

I won’t lie in saying that I am a religious person and that I am well educated in such matters. But on face value it seemed to me that menstruation seemed to be something that would upset someone with extreme religious dedication.

Although my research into the topic may be limited to the Internet which we all know is not exactly the most reliable source of information. I can ascertain that the bible considers that when a man encounters woman that is going through her menstruation cycle, it is consider that both will be considered to be unclean for at least for a limited period of time.

Which leads me to speculate that someone took the meaning of being unclean or perhaps tainted for having an encounter with a woman undergoing her menstruation cycle well into the extremes. This of course would lead the individual to lash out as if an inconsolable rage had been triggered with in them.

Perhaps a congregation would know if there was a man who seemed to take his religious studies or beliefs too the extreme. A man that had some connection to the areas surrounding the Barrowland Ballroom but may not live in the immediate areas as I feel that more victims being identified or possibly even the offender already being identified and arrested.

I am no profiler; I am just a person who is interested in the studies of true crimes that remain unsolved. So take my thoughts for what they are, just thoughts. My only real goal is reaching a conclusion for the families of the victims.

In studying this case, I saw a documentary that featured Helen Puttock’s husband and I could see how this case has affected him emotionally. Despite how hard he was trying to hold back his feelings entirely, one could tell that just how much this case has affected him.

There are too many coincidences in this case to make feel that multiple predators were at large in this case. It strikes me that three women who were menstruating at the time of their deaths and leading up until that moment had followed the same set of circumstances could only have possibly met the same individual.

19 “Whenever a woman has her menstrual period, she will be ceremonially unclean for seven days. Anyone who touches her during that time will be unclean until evening.

20 Anything on which the woman lies or sits during the time of her period will be unclean.

21 If any of you touch her bed, you must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening.

22 If you touch any object she has sat on, you must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening.

23 This includes her bed or any other object she has sat on; you will be unclean until evening if you touch it.

24 If a man has sexual intercourse with her and her blood touches him, her menstrual impurity will be transmitted to him. He will remain unclean for seven days, and any bed on which he lies will be unclean.

25 “If a woman has a flow of blood for many days that is unrelated to her menstrual period, or if the blood continues beyond the normal period, she is ceremonially unclean. As during her menstrual period, the woman will be unclean as long as the discharge continues.

26 Any bed she lies on and any object she sits on during that time will be unclean, just as during her normal menstrual period.

27 If any of you touch these things, you will be ceremonially unclean. You must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening.

28 “When the woman’s bleeding stops, she must count off seven days. Then she will be ceremonially clean.

29 On the eighth day she must bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons and present them to the priest at the entrance of the Tabernacle.

30 The priest will offer one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. Through this process, the priest will purify her before the LORD for the ceremonial impurity caused by her bleeding.

31“This is how you will guard the people of Israel from ceremonial uncleanness. Otherwise they would die, for their impurity would defile my Tabernacle that stands among them.

32 These are the instructions for dealing with anyone who has a bodily discharge—a man who is unclean because of an emission of semen

33 or a woman during her menstrual period. It applies to any man or woman who has a bodily discharge, and to a man who has sexual intercourse with a woman who is ceremonially unclean.”

– Leviticus 15:19-33

I could read those passages all day long and find a motivation for a religious zealot to commit these evil acts. Only knowing what I have experienced personally when dealing with those who are dedicated to their religious beliefs and couple that with what I have seen in cases that I have seen somewhat publicized. This could only be someone who feels that those before him have violated their lord’s will and must act in a manner that prevents them from being affected in a similar way.

One could speculate all day long but given the limited information available on this case, it all points in the direction to a man who had what one might call a spiritual outlook on life. I can only feel that whoever “Bible John” might be is someone that carried themselves as a “ladies man” one might say, only that when a certain set of circumstances occurred then they would lose control of themselves and mercilessly lash out upon the victim if almost they were a completely different person.

I completely believe that suspect was fully aware of his actions and that when he came across a woman who was going through her menstruation cycle, he would lash out with a fearsome rage that would result in their death for he believed that he had become “unclean” also and that was something that he could not live with.

Perhaps he felt violated in someway or that he had lost what one might call a sense of purity. Regardless of what his actual motivations were, I can only feel that his religious views played a part in his grizzly deeds. This of course would bring be back to my original point in that the offender would be known to some or someone who takes their religious views and bible studies far too seriously and has a connection the Barrowland Ballroom’s surrounding areas in that they lived their at some point prior to the murders.

One could also surmise that the individual may have infrequently visited the Barrowland Ballroom because if he were a regular then perhaps the Bouncers may be more likely to provide a consistent description of the suspect.

Using my own history of being a regular at certain venues, after continually going back to a venue and regardless of it being my intention in repeatedly going to a specific venue. The security would begin to talk to me like they knew me after a few weeks. If it was busy and there was a line to get in, I could simply walk to the front and say hello. Then I would have bypassed even the longest of lines and be having a good night.

In saying this, the suspect most likely visited the Barrowland Ballroom infrequently but also visited others around town. Being as charismatic as he was, meeting women was never an issue. I would expand my enquiries across the city to find a matching set of circumstances and MO.

I am no psychologist or any kind of certified profiler but using my own experiences it feels that it could be a likely conclusion. Spreading the description of the suspect to other Ballrooms and their patrons outside of just the mainstream media may have resulted in a suspect being identified.

Perhaps this offender is still out there; perhaps he is dead yet regardless of such possibilities, the families of the victims deserve to know what happened to their loved ones. “Bible John” needs to be unmasked and if he is dead, he does not deserve to maintain a honourable name. The victims deserve justice and their families deserve closure and I can only that one-day they will find it…

The Parkway Predator – My Thoughts

I have never been able to decide which side of the fence my beliefs firmly rest in this case although if I was forced to pick a side, I would have to believe there was a serial killer on the loose. Granted this case does not fit the typical pattern where the MO of the offender is identical in every case however, the cooling off period and the geographic location in each instance makes the possibility of a serial offender too difficult to ignore.

Five young couples cut down before they could even experience the prime of their lives by an individual who seemed to kill for his own twisted purposes and to see how he could increase the excitement he felt with each attack. What ever was going on in such an obviously psychotic mind seemed to enjoy the experimentation of each instance. Unfortunately we may never gain an insight into this deranged mind, serial killer or not.

The Dowski-Thomas may fit all the hallmarks of a Hate Crime, Just like the Call-Hailey case may seem like the work of a stalker or a jealous partner. Perhaps all of these cases were tragically a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. But the one thing that discredits this possibility to me is how could couples have been controlled by a single individual. Like the commonly considered factor that it would have been simple for an authority figure or someone impersonating one.

A Police Officer, Park Ranger or a failed attempt at one. Someone who tried to gain acceptance within their ranks but at some stage either became intoxicated with the status of said position or someone who tried to be one but failed and set out on a path of revenge. An individual who decided that he would show law enforcement what he was capable of doing when they told him he was not cut from the cloth they sought.

The way the driver’s side window at least partially rolled down as if they were preparing to greet such a public figure in a routine procedure of checking their identification and simply scoping out the behaviour of those individuals present in any given area. This commonality in each case proved to be the genesis for my belief that this series was the work a serial killer. However given the somewhat failed attempt to cover their tracks in the Dowski-Thomas case, a new consideration came into my mind.

Although now I reside in the United States, I spent most of my life in Australia. In Australia, the name Ivan Milat is synonymous with cold blooded murder. A man who abducted tourists and brutally murdered them in the Belanglo State Forest of New South Wales. The similarities to me are somewhat striking. A calculating individual who lured unsuspecting, good willed people to their deaths by preying on their forgiving nature.

He would lure them into a false sense of security for brutally murdering them, much like the suspect I believe in this case would have done. Yet to this day some of those involved with this case believe that Ivan Milat did not act alone in the cases that he his attributed to. The Milat family had a long history of clashes with law enforcement and made ideal candidates to be considered co-conspirators in a case of serial murder. Perhaps Ivan involved his brothers, Perhaps he did not. Still the crimes seemed like it would be farfetched for a single individual to have carried out.

Controlling another individual while you are caught up in the murder of another. I find it hard to believe that I would not try to escape and get help while a deranged killer took the life of my friend. Yes, I have never been in that situation so I cannot testify to how I would react but it simply seems like an instinctual behaviour to try and preserve ones self.

This is what I cannot help wonder about The Colonial Parkway Predator, did he act alone? For someone Law Enforcement agencies cannot agree upon as a single perpetrator, it can surely not be too much of a stretch to consider that a third party took part in these heinous acts. After all, the suspect would have needed to control two people who are terrified and doing whatever they must to survive.

In the Call-Hailey case, it would most likely suggest that the perpetrator did not immediately make his evil intentions clear as the next morning came and Keith’s father did not notice anything suspicious about the vehicle. If the suspect had of immediately proceeded to engage in murderous intentions then there would have been some form of indication present at this time. This is where I feel the suspect failed in covering his tracks in a manner of speaking. The evidence present in vehicle or lack there of gives us the same MO as the other cases in that the offender or offenders managed to remove the suspects from the vehicle before any sense of alarm was raised.

Like Milat, One can only believe that the suspect gained some initial form of trust with their victims and it was not until they were completely vulnerable would he strike. Like any predator, they would wait until the victims were completely unsuspecting of any misgivings before their intentions became apparent. Perhaps he engaged them in dialogue of some kind along the lines of “how was your night?” and “Where are you headed?”. Then when he had them drop their guard, it was time to engage in his horrific plans.

By the time the victims realised what was happening it would have been too late, the suspect would have been in complete control of the scene. After then all we can do is speculate up until the victims were found after the fact. But that raises even greater questions, who was the The Colonial Parkway Killer and more importantly, where is he now?. Like I have already mentioned, I would not even consider it a stretch of the present facts to consider it a question of – who were they and where are they now?…

Could this case finally see a resolution?

Almost reminds me of the East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker, only this time there is a suspect! The suspect also reminds of Ted Bundy in some ways… Glad he won’t be getting out of jail!

The Springfield Three – Part II

The Springfield Three – Part II

Twenty-four hours after of what is a typically a proud moment for parents and a moment of celebration for children, Mrs McCall was about to become the genesis of something unimaginable. Using photo’s taken from the recent graduation ceremony, She has photo’s of Suzie and Stacy developed to use in a missing persons campaign to try and locate her daughter and friend. Rapidly gaining media attention, tips began to come flooding in from a variety of sources and prove overwhelming to authorities who are only just launching an investigation.

A waitress at a restaurant frequented by Suzie and Stacy claimed to have seen the missing girls having a meal around 1 am on the night of their apparent disappearance. Investigators were never able to substantiate this claim after being able to gain contact with other patrons who were also present at the time in question.

Time continued to pass without any solid leads for investigators to follow. Even as greater resources were allocated to the case and the FBI became involved, the Springfield Police were unable to locate the three missing women. After questioning Sherill’s eldest child, Bart Streeter, investigators were able to rule him out as a suspect after confirming his alibi that he was at his own residence having passed out after excessive drinking.

However his sisters personal life would give rise to the first suspects in this long and arduous investigation. Suzie Streeter’s ex-boyfriend, a youth named Dustin Reckler. Mr. Reckler and a group of associates were arrested by local law enforcement after they were found to have been responsible for the vandalism of a local cemetery and had been selling the gold tooth fillings from the corpses they had defiled.

The relationship ended after his arrest a few months prior to the disappearance of the three women and after Suzie provided a statement to the authorities there was significant resentment between her and Mr. Reckler and a close associate named Michael Clay. There alibi’s of being at a local rock concert were unable to be confirmed or denied by investigators but their actions during interrogation brought them increased scrutiny.

Michael Clay in particular was quoted as saying he wished death upon the missing women which lead some including friends and family to speculate about his involvement in their disappearance. However both Clay and Reckler continually cooperated with the authorities and continue to deny any involvement in what happened that fateful night. As the investigation continues investigators are still unable to rule them out as suspects despite their willingness to be of help to detectives.

It was during this stage of the investigation that Police received a tip from a witness came forward with a possible sighting of one of the missing girls. During the time in which they were supposed to have disappeared a witness told detectives that she saw a van being driven by who she believed to be Suzie Streeter.

The witness claimed that the driver she believed to be Suzie appeared to be distressed. She was sitting on her front porch of the morning of the disappearance and that she noticed a van pull into her street and turn around. Furthermore she stated that as the van pulled in she claimed to hear a man’s voice in the back telling the driver to just back out slowly and get them out of there.

Unfortunately this witness did not come forward earlier as she had not seen the fliers placed around town by Mrs. McCall. Still the investigators believe this information to have credibility and after it was released to the public, more tips with similar claims came flooding in. Despite all describing a van being driven through the neighbourhood, the colour described by the various witness’s ranges from nearly a whole rainbow of colours.

Time continued to pass and with the model of the van plastered all over the news, detectives checked thousands of vans of similar make and colour but to no avail. However, Police were about to receive what could possibly be their best tip yet. It would come from miles away in the state of Florida. This tip would provide the investigation with arguably its best suspect yet. A man by the name of Robert Craig Cox.

A man well known to law enforcement agencies in multiple jurisdictions across the United States. Robert Cox is an trained Army Ranger who had been arrested and tried in Florida for the murder of Sharon Zellers but had the conviction overturned due to insignificant evidence. Insignificant evidence one might say was the reason that Robert Cox may have avoided prosecution and conviction time after time.

Cox is a man who had continually managed to evade conviction for a variety of offences that range from kidnapping to burglary. He was however convicted of murder in Florida and placed on death row until the State Supreme Court. Despite every juror being convinced of his guilt, the conviction was overturned on the grounds of insufficient evidence. After being released, Cox was returned to California to finish serving his sentence for another offence.

Upon completion of his prison term in California, Mr. Cox moved home to his parents in Springfield. Investigators would soon discover that he was employed at a Car Dealership where Stacy McCall’s father was also employed as a salesman. However as they continued to investigate this suspect, he was able to provide an alibi for the time in question that was confirmed by his girlfriend at the time. The investigation had reached another dead end.

Years passed and it was not until 1995 where Robert Cox was arrested in text for aggravated burglary that investigators would take another look into their files on the suspect. During this new examination, Detectives find that his alibi that Cox was in Church with his girlfriend at the time in question was false as she recanted her previous statement and told the investigators that she had spoken to Cox right before her initial interview and told her what to tell Police.

Now serving a life sentence, Robert Cox has never confessed to any involvement in this case. Still that has not stopped him from taunting police and those with a vested interest in this case by pretending to know a lot more than he is willing to admit. When questioned about these events he gives cryptic answers and says thing such as “I just know they are dead”. Police have never been able to conclusively link him or any other suspect to the missing women and perhaps they never will be unless he decides to confess to being involved in their disappearance.

As the years have passed one constant rumor as to the whereabouts of the missing women has been given substantial attention given that it has been mentioned too many times by too many unrelated sources. The south parking garage of Cox Hospital was under still under construction at the time of their disappearance and after being scanned by a reputable mechanical engineer who specialises in ground penetration radar, a small area of the parking lot was found to be covering three anomalies. While this does not conclusively tell us that is where they are buried, it is the closest thing investigators have as to a lead that could help solve the mystery. Until that section of the ground is unearth, all we can do is continue to speculate and wonder what could have happened that fateful night…
